Day by day
What is more private, more intimate, than intuition? It is the only means they possess wherefrom to start to get mystical experience, glimpses, true enlightenment. Yet they insist on seeking among those who stand outside them, among the teachers, for that which must be searched after and felt inside themselves.
14.22.1.285Listen 1 Aug 2014It is surprising how widely people have ignored Jesus' message (”The kingdom of heaven is within you”) when its meaning is so clear, its phrasing so strong.
16.25.1.51Listen 2 Aug 2014He is not set free from the evolutionary task of developing his personality because he has developed the capacity to enter mystical states. He must fulfil this task and thus bring all his capabilities into equilibrium; until he has done this, his enjoyment of the divine bliss will be only a sporadic and broken one. But this task fulfilled, it will become a natural and continuous one.
11.16.2.103Listen 3 Aug 2014A great humility comes into him when at long last he steps aside from his ego sufficiently to allow the perception that it is not in his own power to enter the ultimate Enlightenment. Grace is the arbiter.
15.23.4.101Listen 4 Aug 2014During the glimpse he left himself and found a being within which transcended it. After the glimpse he has the chance to create a conscious relationship between them. His outer life ought to carry the mark of this extraordinary event.
14.22.7.229Listen 5 Aug 2014The day will come when constant effort and long practice will permit him to recognize true from pseudo-intuition with the speed and certainty with which a musically trained ear recognizes notes and times (tunes) in a played piece.
14.22.1.206Listen 6 Aug 2014... The deeper layers of the mind in which one man abides are indissolubly the same as the deeper layers of the mind in which his neighbour abides…
11.16.14.85, ExcerptListen 7 Aug 2014... When he feels the urge to weep for no apparent reason he should not resist, as it is a sign of the working of Grace upon him. The more he yields to this urge the more quickly will he progress. This is an important manifestation although its inner significance will not be understood by the materialistic world.
12.18.5.302, ExcerptListen 8 Aug 2014No counsel could be safer and better than that which proceeds from a man to himself by way of intuition. But first let him be sure that it is intuition.
14.22.1.190Listen 9 Aug 2014He returns from his first initiation into the egoless life with a rich cargo. He carries the stability of peace. A strange feeling of safety takes possession of him at that time. He knows neither care for the uncertain future nor regret for the unpleasant past. He knows that henceforth the life of his being is in the hands of the higher self, and with this he is quite content.
14.22.7.5Listen 10 Aug 2014Intuition tells us what to do. Reason tells us how to do it. Intuition points direction and gives destination. Reason shows a map of the way there.
14.22.1.38Listen 11 Aug 2014One of the causes of the failure to get any results from meditation is that the meditator has not practised long enough. In fact, the wastage of much time in unprofitable, distracted, rambling thinking seems to be the general experience. Yet this is the prelude to the actual work of meditation in itself. It is a necessary excavation before the building can be erected. The fact is unpleasant but must be accepted. If this experience of the first period is frustrating and disappointing, the experience of the second period is happy and rewarding…
4.4.3.2, ExcerptListen 12 Aug 2014He must test these experiences, these intuitions not only by their internal evidences but also by their external results. Do they make him humbler or prouder? Do they improve the balance of his faculties or disturb it?
11.16.14.128Listen 13 Aug 2014Many beginners are not really on this quest of the Overself at all, although they tell themselves and others that they are. Their quest is for a group to which they can belong--an organization they can join or a sect with which they can affiliate.
11.16.4.64Listen 14 Aug 2014He may know that the work of Grace has begun when he feels an active drawing from within which wakes him from sleep and which recurs in the day, urging him to practise his devotions, his recollections, his prayers, or his meditations. It leads him from his surface consciousness to his inner being, a movement which slowly goes back in ever-deepening exploration and discovery of himself.
12.18.5.278Listen 15 Aug 2014An intuitive idea is quite different from one derived from the customary process of logical thinking. Unless it is distorted or muddled by the man himself, it is always reliable. Can we say the same of an intellectual idea?
14.22.1.47Listen 16 Aug 2014We would all like to learn quick ways of achieving Nirvana; we would all like to realize the Overself overnight. Spiritual teachers are often asked for some magical formula whose use would turn man into Overman.
11.16.7.1Listen 17 Aug 2014... The Long Path merely takes him to another part of the ego, even though it is the higher part.
3.2.1.136, ExcerptListen 18 Aug 2014Many have failed to disidentify themselves from their thoughts, despite all attempts. This shows its difficulty, not its impossibility. In such cases, grace alone will liberate them from their thought-chains.
12.18.5.116Listen 19 Aug 2014Without a complete and penetrative understanding of philosophical truth, a real union with the Overself cannot be effected, but only an apparent one...
11.16.2.192, ExcerptListen 20 Aug 2014The man who has trained himself to listen for the voice of intuition, which means trained himself to wait for it to speak and disciplined himself to be inwardly alert yet also inwardly quiet for it, does not have to suffer the painful conflicts and tormenting divisions which others do when confronted by issues demanding a choice or a decision.
14.22.1.259Listen 21 Aug 2014... Those aspirants who bemoan the loss of their early glimpse should remind themselves, in hours of depression, that it will recur before they leave the body.
14.22.4.48, ExcerptListen 22 Aug 2014That which is within us as the Overself, being godlike, is out of time and eternal.
14.22.3.283Listen 23 Aug 2014If it is authentic intuition, he will feel increasingly convinced by it as days and weeks pass until in the end its truth will seem unarguable to him.
14.22.1.211Listen 24 Aug 2014...There will come suddenly unexpectedly and in the dead of night, as it were, a tremendous Realization of the egoless state, a tremendous feeling of liberation from itself as it has known itself, a tremendous awareness of the infinitude, universality, and intelligence of life…
16.25.2.55, ExcerptListen 25 Aug 2014The passing over into higher consciousness cannot be attained by the will of any man, yet it cannot be attained without the will of man. Both grace and effort are needed.
12.18.5.133Listen 26 Aug 2014... Let him remember that he cannot conquer his desires nor subdue his animal nature by his own strength alone. In the final outcome, it is divine Grace which releases him from his bondage. Grace comes only after he himself has made every possible effort, after he has practised sacrificing his desires and has offered up his whole lower nature to the Overself...
3.2.4.50, ExcerptListen 27 Aug 2014How many minds have pondered over life and searched for its meaning, only to feel baffled in the end, and held back by their own limitations? For although the active intellect naturally asks such questions, only the intuition can answer them adequately. But the latter is the least cultivated of all our faculties and the most torpid, and this is why we have no access to the answers, and why the questions remain troublesome or even torturing.
14.22.1.17Listen 28 Aug 2014This progress through a series of attitudes leads in the end to something transcending them altogether--a shift of consciousness from ego to Overself.
15.23.1.50Listen 29 Aug 2014... In seeking the Overself, the earnest aspirant must seek it with heartfelt love. Indeed, his whole quest must be ardently imbued with this feeling... Because of this devotion to something which transcends his selfish interests, he can no longer seek his selfish advantage at the expense of others. His aim will be not only to love the soul but to understand it, not only to hear its voice in meditation but to live out its promptings in action.
3.2.9.67, ExcerptListen 30 Aug 2014If you can attentively trace this subtle feeling back to its own root, you will get a reward immeasurably greater than it seemed to promise.
